Oklahoma’s Hynes and Brown repeat at 2019 16U USMC Girls Folkstyle National Championship

Oklahoma City, Okla—Two returning folkstyle national champions walked away with another 16U (formerly Cadet) championship Friday night at the Cox Center for the 2019 US Marine Corps Girls Folkstyle National Championship.

Allyson Hynes, ranked #13 in the National Girls High School Rankings at 100 pounds, moved up to 112 pounds and was overall victorious in her bracket. The Oklahoma native started her day off strong when she won by tech fall and pin in the first two rounds. Hynes won by decision in her quarter-finals and semi-finals bout before pinning Israel Resendez of Colorado in the finals.

Also joining as a repeat champion is #2 nationally-ranked Olivia Brown of Oklahoma, in the 200-pound weight class. With 2019 being only her second year of wrestling, Brown secured a quick fall in her quarterfinals match, then locking in a decision in her semi-finals bout, before finishing the tournament with another first-period pin.

2018 Cadet World bronze medalist and Cadet freestyle national champion Sterling Dias of Nevada, is another wrestling star claiming the 2019 Folkstyle National title at 94 pounds.

Both Jennifer Soto of California (117) and Dasia Yearby of South Carolina (164) did not let the move up in age groups distract them from their national titles; both are last year’s Schoolgirl national champions.

The remaining champions from tonight include Dianna Holmes of Georgia (100), Cristelle Rodriguez of California (106), Devin Patton of Texas (122), Sofia Macaluso of New York (127), Kylie Welker (132) and Jade Herzer (138) of Wisconsin, Kayley Rada of Michigan (144), Alexandra Nelson of Rhode Island (152) and Brianna Staebler of Wisconsin (180).
