Cadet Pan Am Greco strikes gold in Mexico with eight gold

MORELIA, Mexico – USA’s Cadet Greco-Roman team put together a successful day to open the 2019 Cadet Pan American Championships, claiming eight gold medals and one bronze.
Winning for the Red, White and Blue was Daniel Sheen at 45 kg, Joey Fischer at 48 kg, Jesse Mendez at 60 kg, Robert Perez II at 65 kg, John Best at 71 kg, Jack Darrah at 80 kg, Michael Misita at 92 kg and Braxton Mikesell at 110 kg.
With four technical falls, Fischer received the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler award, not surrendering a single point the entire day.
Nico Provo, who wrestled at 51 kg, finished his day off strong, claiming bronze after dropping his first match of the day.
The U.S. rep at 55 kg, Jacob Rundell, did not compete today.
Overall, the United States went 27-2 on the day and ran away with the team title.
The athletes that make up the Greco-Roman team will also compete again on Sunday in men’s freestyle.
