The 2018 Team Illinois championship team with their plaque.

The annual 14U (Schoolboy) National Duals will be getting back underway at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, Ind., this week. Wrestling will begin Thursday, June 13 with Greco-Roman taking place first and freestyle to follow on Saturday and Sunday. All duals can be live streamed on TrackWrestling.com.

Illinois is bringing a tough squad of young wrestlers and looking to repeat as double-champions. The Prairie State won both the freestyle and Greco-Roman competitions in 2018.

Illinois was dominant a year ago in freestyle, winning their pool duals 68-13, 64-14, and 47-32 before going on to make the finals and defeating Michigan Blue 55-25. Illinois has won 6 out of the last 10 years in freestyle at this event.

If there has been one style at the age-level National Duals where Illinois has not been as dominant as the rest, it’s been 14U Greco-Roman. However, Illinois won the title for the first time since 2012 last year when they defeated Michigan Blue in the finals 49-30. They also had the most All-Tournament Team members of any state in Greco-Roman with five.

Illinois will be led by 2018 14U Greco-Roman All-Tournament Team member David Mayora. The 130-pounder went 6-0 last year at 114/119 lbs. in Greco-Roman in route to making the All-Tournament Team.
