FARGO, N.D. - The 16U Greco-Roman semifinals are complete and the finals are set. In one of the premiere semifinal matchup at 170 lbs., 2019 UWW Cadet World Team Trials champion Tate Picklo of Oklahoma pinned freestyle champion Leonard Pinto of Pennsylvania in 31 seconds. Pinto locked up and threw Picklo in a reverse lift, but Picklo was able to step over and put Pinto on his back to get the pin. Now, Picklo will take on Gavin Nelson of Minnesota in the finals. Nelson has used three tech falls and two pins to make the finals.

In the other premiere semifinal match, 2019 U15 World gold medalist Brock Bobzien of California took out 2018 UWW Cadet National Greco-Roman runner-up Gabe Whisenhunt of Oregon 11-2 at 113 lbs. In the blood round at 113 lbs., returning champion Kenndyl Mobley of Washington lost to Dante Rigal of New York and will not be an All-American this year.

Robert Paul Perez III of California, another 2019 UWW Cadet World Team Trials champion, is having little problems in the 145 lbs. bracket. Paniro Johnson of Pennsylvania held Perez to his first decision of the tournament, but was still unable to score a point. In winning 7-0, Perez still has yet to give up a point this tournament.

Putting up a combined 29 points, Adam Ahrendsen of Iowa and Kaleb Smith of Idaho had the most exciting semifinal match. After going back and forth the entire match, Ahrendsen came out on top 15-14.

Nicolar Rivera of Wisconsin and 2018 Fargo finalist Joey Cape of Illinois put on another match to watch in the 120 lbs. semifinals. Using excellent par terre work, Rivera won 10-6.

There are six freestyle champions now in the Greco-Roman finals. Cael Hughes at 94 lbs., Jore Volk at 100 lbs., John Wiley at 138 lbs., Seth Shumate at 195 lbs., Kolby Franklin at 220 lbs., and Hayden Copass of 285 lbs. Of those wrestlers, only Copass is a Folksytle Naitonals champion and still eligible for the USA Wresting Triple Crown.

Illinois and California put four athletes into the finals, but Illinois still sits nine points ahead of California in the team race. Georgia, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania round out the top five teams.

Finals will get underway at 2 p.m. CST and be streamed live on FloWrestling.
