Numerous talents in all three styles expected at the 21st Dave Schultz Memorial International this weekend

American wrestling fans can get their first fix of international men’s and women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling in 2019 this weekend at the Dave Schultz Memorial International. Athletes from all across the globe will compete at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. from Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 24-26
Fans who cannot attend in person can watch a live broadcast of the Dave Schultz Memorial International on FloWrestling.
Below is a preliminary list of projected participants, which has been collected from online entries and information from USA Wrestling National Coaches, clubs, RTCs, colleges and individual athletes. For some athletes, which weight class they will compete has not been determined. As more information is received, this will be updated.
While most competitors are from the United States, athletes from Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Egypt, Finland, Japan, Lebanon, Puerto Rico, Slovenia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will be competing as well. A delegation from Kazakhstan may also be attending
Canada is bringing the largest visiting international team with athletes in all three styles. Their men’s freestyle roster will include four athletes who have competed at the Senior World Championships as well as a pair of 2018 University World bronze medalists in Sam Jagas and Tyler Rowe.
Canada’s women’s freestyle team is loaded with talent from top to bottom. 2016 Olympic gold medalist and 2018 World bronze medalist Erica Wiebe, 2012 World champion and two-time medalist Jessica MacDonald, and 2018 World silver medalist Danielle Lappage will be competing. In total, Canada is expected to bring 15 past Senior World competitors, eight World University medalists, and four Senior World/Olympic medalists.

In addition to a laundry list of NCAA All-Americans, past NCAA champions Jordan Oliver, Darian Cruz, Cody Brewer, and Dean Heil will be in action as well.

Each discipline will be featured over two days of competition. Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle will be featured on Thursday, January 24 and Friday, January 25. Men’s freestyle action will be held on Friday, January 25 and Saturday, January 26.
This has become one of the top international sports competitions held annually in Colorado Springs, Colo., which is recognized as Olympic City USA. The first Dave Schultz Memorial International was held in 1999 at the U.S. Army base Fort Carson, which is located south of Colorado Springs. In 2000, the event was moved to the U.S. Olympic Training Center, where it has been held ever since.
Tickets are available at the venue. Spectators must enter through the main gate on Boulder Street. An Adult All-Session Pass is $20, an Adult One-Day Ticket is $15 and Adult Per-Session Tickets are $10 a session. High School students (with I.D.) and Senior Citizens (62+) are $5 per day. Youth (5-14 years old) are $4 a day. Coaches are free with five paid wrestlers.
