No matter how you look at it, the 2018 year was very good for David Taylor. In simple terms, he reached one of his lifelong goals, becoming a Senior World Freestyle champion. How he achieved that goal was remarkable. Taylor finished the year undefeated, winning 28 matches and claiming titles at seven different major events. He was dominant in his efforts, winning 21 of those bouts by pin or technical fall. At the World Championships, he beat World and Olympic champion Hassan Yazdani of Iran in the first round, and stopped all of the major competitors in his weight class in a brutal draw that led to gold. He was named UWW Freestyle Wrestler of the Year. Taylor has already moved on to the next big challenges, with his eyes firmly on the 2019 World Championships and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. We visited with David Taylor during the Freestyle National Team Training Camp in Colorado Springs and talked about what is next for The Magic Man.
