Diakomihalis vs. Retherford 65 kg wrestle-off set for Sept. 2 in Pennsylvania
by Taylor Miller, USA Wrestling
The completion of the Final X 65 kg competition in men’s freestyle between Yianni Diakomihalis and Zain Retherford has been scheduled for Monday, Sept. 2 at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., to determine the 2019 World Team spot.
Last week, an arbitrator, Professor Matthew Mitten, ruled that the second match between Diakomihalis and Retherford was nullified, due to officials improperly allowing a challenge at the conclusion of the second bout at Final X: Rutgers on June 8, 2019.
As a result, match two will be re-wrestled, and if necessary, a third match will be contested.
Bout 2 will begin at 3 p.m. ET on Sept. 2. Fans can watch live on FloWrestling.org.
Retherford enters the best-of-three series with a 1-0 lead after winning the first Final X bout against Diakomihalis, 10-4. Retherford needs to win only one more match to make the World Team, while Diakomihalis will need to win two matches.
Ticket information will be available soon.
