Fix wins Pan Am Games, Eierman collects bronze in Peru

LIMA, Peru – Daton Fix and Jaydin Eierman gave the U.S. men’s freestyle squad a good start at the 2019 Pan American Games, scoring a gold and a bronze, respectively, on Friday in Lima, Peru.
Fix, a 2017 Junior World champion and 2018 Junior World bronze medalist, made his international Senior-level debut today and put on an impressive show.
After beating 2017 U23 World champion Reineri Andreu Ortega of Cuba and 2017 Junior Pan American bronze medalist Daniel Alves Do Nascimento of Brazil in the morning session, Fix dominated in his finals match at 57 kg.
Taking on 2011 Pan Am Games champion Juan Ramirez Beltre of the Dominican Republic, Fix used his top game to roll to victory. The American scored quickly on a takedown and used two gut wrenches for a 6-0 victory. Shortly after, he picked up another takedown and went right into a trapped-arm gut to close it out 10-0.
Fix will compete at the 2019 Senior World Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, in September.
Stepping up for the USA with a late entry at 65 kg was Jaydin Eierman, who claimed a bronze medal with an exciting performance on Friday night.
Taking on three-time Junior Pan Am champion Augustin Destribats of Argentina, Eierman went up 8-0 early with two takedowns and two gut wrenches. Moments later, in a flurry, Destribats picked up a four-point takedown but Eierman responded with a reversal and tacked on three leg laces for a 15-4 technical fall.
The 2019 Pan American Games wrap up tomorrow with the remaining four men’s freestyle weights – 74 kg, 86 kg, 97 kg and 125 kg.
