#GrecoMonday: Watch National Team member Brady Koontz claim U23 World Team spot in best-of-three series at Fargo
by Mike Willis USA Wrestling
At 20 years old, Brady Koontz earned his spot as the No. 2 Greco-Roman wrestler in the country at 55 kg. A 2018 Junior Greco-Roman World Team member, Koontz entered the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament as the No. 7 seed. He would make his way to the best-of-three finals in dominant fashion, with 8-0 and 9-0 technical fall victories.
He swept the finals series, two matches to none, over 2018 U23 World Team member and 2018 National Team member Dalton Duffield to earn the opportunity to compete for a Senior World Team spot at Final X: Rutgers.
While Duffield would fall to Greco-Roman veteran Max Nowry in two matches at Final X, the upstart showed he would not back down from a challenge.
Koontz opted to compete for the U23 World Team spot, challenging U23 World Team Trials champion Liam Cronin. In a back and forth series that took place center stage at the Fargo Dome during the 2019 USMC 16U Nationals, Koontz earned his U23 World Team spot.
