U.S. Olympians Provisor, Coleman, plus 10 past World Team members reach Greco-Roman semifinals at U.S. Open

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The semifinals have been set at the 2019 U.S. Open in Greco-Roman, after the first session of action at the South Point Arena on Thursday morning. All 10 No. 1 seeds have advanced to the semifinals.
Past U.S. Olympians who have advanced to the semifinals include two-time Olympian Ben Provisor at 87 kg and Ellis Coleman of the U.S. Army WCAP at 67 kg.
Past World Team members who have advanced include Dalton Roberts of the New York AC at 60 kg, Ildar Hafizov of the U.S. Army WCAP at 60 kg, RaVaughn Perkins of the New York AC at 72 kg, Kamal Bey of the Sunkist Kids at 77 kg, Pat Smith of Minnesota Storm at 77 kg, Mason Manville of Army WCAP at 77 kg, Cheney Haight of the New York AC at 82 kg, Patrick Martinez of the New York AC at 87 kg, Joe Rau of the Titan Mercury WC at 87 kg and G’Angelo Hancock of the Sunkist Kids at 97 kg.
Hafizov was an Olympian for Uzbekistan before emegrating to the U.S. and becoming a citizen here.
The semifinals at 77 kg will feature three past World Team members, with No. 2 seed Smith battling No. 3 seed Manville, while No. 1 seed Bey battles No. 4 seed Peyton Walsh of the U.S. Marines.
Fans are also excited for the 60 kg weight class, where the top four seeds have advanced. 2018 World Team member Dalton Roberts of the New York AC will face Leslie Fuenffinger of the U.S. Army. The bouts between the two have been legendary high-scoring battles, with Fuenffinger beating Roberts 9-8 at the 2019 Dave Schultz Memorial, while Roberts beat Fuenffinger 9-8 in the 2018 U.S. Open finals.
One of the big quarterfinal bouts came at 82 kg, when No. 6 seed, veteran star Kendrick Sanders of the New York AC, nailed a reverse lift for five point takedown for a 9-0 technical fall over Jon Jay Chavez, a 2018 World Team Trials champion.
This tournament is very important in the World Team Trials process, as champions in every single weight class except 130 kg advance directly to Final X, either at Rutgers or at Lincoln.
NOTES
The top seed to fall in round one was No. 5 Carter Nielsen of the Minnesota Storm, who lost by fall to Lukas Poloncic of SMI at 82 kg.
In the round of 16, No. 9 seed Andrew Berreyesa of NYAC/Finger Lakes beat No. 8 seed Terrance Zaleski of U.S. Marines), 5-4. Berreyesa was a 2018 Junior World silver medalist for the United States.
2016 U.S. Olympian in freestyle wrestling, Daniel Dennis of Titan Mercury WC, opened his Senior Greco-Roman career with a win, defeating Logan Savvy of NYAC-Finger Lakes RTC), 7-2 at 60 kg. However, in the second round, Dennis dropped a 10-0 technical fall to Matthew Schmitt of the WVRTC.
The semifinals will have six showdowns, where athletes from the New York AC will battle athletes from the U.S. Army WCAP.
