Folkstyle portion of 2019 Marines Western Regional kicks off

Las Vegas, Nev. The 2019 Marines Western Regional began today with the men’s u16 /junior and women’s high school folkstyle portion of the competition. Running side-by-side with the US Open, the Western Regional had some highly credentialed wrestlers in the brackets. On the men’s side, Fargo Cadet double All-American, Cody Chittum placed first at the 133-141 weight-class. At the 192-211 weight-class, Santos Cantu took first pinning all four of his opponents. Cantu won gold at the 2018 Cadet Pan American Champions in men’s freestyle while taking bronze in Greco-Roman. On the women’s side, Junior Fargo runner-up Phoenix Dubose dominated the 111-122 pound bracket, earning a technical fall and three pins including one in the finals. In the 148-158 weight-class, 2018 Pan American Champion in women’s freestyle Amit Elor took first, pinning all three of her opponents.
