Anthony, Martinez reach Medved International semifinals in Belarus

MINSK, Belarus – A pair of U.S. wrestlers, women’s freestyle star Victoria Anthony, Tempe, Ariz. (Sunkist Kids) and men’s freestyle star Isaiah Martinez, Champaign, Ill. (Titan Mercury WC/Illini WC) have reached the semifinals after the first session of the Alexander Medved International on Friday.
Anthony, a two-time Senior World Team member, won both of her 50 kg bouts by technical fall, putting away WIN Aisha Ualishan of Kazakhstan, 11-0 and Irina Borissova of Kazakhstan), 15-4. She faces Elena Vostrikova of Russia in the semifinals.
Martinez also won his first two bouts, stopping Ivan Kusyak of Ukraine, 8-0 and Andrius Mazeika of Lithuania, 11-8. He draws Azamat Nurykau of Belarus in his semifinals.
Four U.S. athletes dropped bouts on Friday morning. We will know after the semifinals if any will earn spots in repechage.
