Medeiros places fifth on final day of Veterans Greco-Roman Worlds in Russia

PERM, Russia – James Medeiros of Van Nuys, Calif. placed fifth at 100 kg in Div. A (35-40 years old) on the final day of the Veterans World Greco-Roman Championships, which concluded on Sunday.
Medeiros opened with a 3-0 victory in his quarterfinal bout over Arlan Darkhambayev of Kazakhstan, then was beaten by Denis Novozhilov of Russia, 3-0 in the semifinals. In his bronze-medal bout, Medeiros lost to Vladimir Pshenichnyy of Russia, 5-1.
The other U.S. entry in Div. A, Milton Yates of Washington, D.C., lost in his opening bout to Antti Pauli Raskinkangas of Finland, 10-3. When Raskinkangas did not reach the finals, Yates was not eligible for repechage.
Team USA had five entries in the Veterans Greco-Roman World Championships this year, winning one medal, when Stephen Horton of Cibolo, Texas won a silver medal at 70 kg in Div. D (51-55 years old) on Saturday.
The Team Leader/Coach was two-time Veterans World Greco-Roman champion Chris Brown of Maryland, who is also a member of USA Wrestling’s Associated Styles Committee.
