Are you ready for some great wrestling, and a fun-filled day?
The U.S. Beach National Championships are back ocean-side in scenic Carolina Beach, N.C. on Saturday, May 19.
For the second straight year, it will be held in conjunction with the U.S. Belt Wrestling Championships. Participants in the Beach Nationals can, for only $10 more, enter the Belt Nationals, which will be held on alongside the Beach competition in the sand.
Online registration has closed, but onsite registration is still possible. Participants will have an opportunity to register and weigh in on either Friday night at the Lazy Pirate or Saturday morning at the wrestling venue down on Carolina Beach
Those who participate in both the U.S. Beach Nationals and the U.S. Belt Nationals will have first opportunity to participate in major international competitions in these two Associated Styles.
Have you competed in Beach Wrestling or Belt Wrestling before? Those who have tried these styles have had a great experience, getting a chance to test themselves in a new setting. And who doesn’t like going to the beach?
The rules of Beach wrestling are simple. First wrestler to three points wins. You score with either takedowns or stepouts. It is often a short and explosive match, with some great throws and scrambles. The sand slows people down a little bit, so it takes skill to get setups and scores. And did we say it is a lot of fun?
Belt wrestling is a different kind of test. Each wrestler has a belt around the waist. While holding each other's belt, they try to throw their opponent. There will be belts available for participants at the U.S. Belt Nationals to use.
Returning Senior Beach National champions are Michael Peters of Road Dawgs WC at 70 kg, Shelton Sales of North Carolina at 80 kg, unattached Justin Harrell at 90 kg, and Gabe Beauperthuy of Colorado USA Wrestling at the unlimited weight class. Peters and Beauperthuy went on to place fifth at the Beach World Championships last year in Turkey.
With multiple youth age group, along with Senior and Veterans divisions, young and old will be able to compete on the sand on Saturday. We will see you there.
