LIMA, Peru – Four U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers have advanced to the finals of the 2018 Pan American Championships, including Max Nowry (55kg), Ryan Mango (63 kg), RaVaughn Perkins (72 kg) and Robby Smith (130 kg).

Only seven of the 10 Greco weights competed today. In addition to the finalists, Mike Fuenffinger (60 kg), Ellis Coleman (67 kg) and Daniel Miller (97 kg) wrestled today.

Nowry, Mango and Perkins each wrestled in round-robin brackets, where they dominated the competition.

Nowry only surrendered one point as he navigated his way through the 55 kg bracket. In the final round of competition, he’ll see Sargis Khachatryan of Brazil, who is also undefeated on the day. Whoever emerges victorious will claim the title at 55 kg. Nowry is seeking his second Pan Am title. His first came in 2013.

Similarly, the winner of Perkins vs. Wuileixis De Jesus Rivas Espinoza of Venezuela will capture the gold medal at 72 kg.

Perkins started his day with a win by forfeit before recording back-to-back tech falls to put himself in position for gold.

Two-time National Team member Mango had a day full of big throws en route to a perfect morning session. His performance led him to three tech fall wins to outscore his opponents, 30-4.

According to UWW rules, Mango has sealed the 63 kg gold medal regardless of the outcome of his match on Thursday night because of his head-to-head wins.

At 130 kg, Robby Smith advanced to the Pan Am finals for the first time after a crushing 13-0 tech fall win over Jose Noel Erazo Henriquez of El Salvador and a pin over Luis Alberto Roman Barrios of Mexico in 1:45.

Waiting on the other side of the bracket is 2017 World bronze medalist and two-time reigning Pan Am champion Oscar Pino Hinds of Cuba. This is Pino Hinds’ third-straight trip to the finals.

Unable to qualify for the finals were Mike Fuenffinger at 60 kg, Ellis Coleman at 67 kg and Daniel Miller at 97 kg.

The finals are set for 7 p.m. ET on Thursday. Fans can watch all the action live on Trackwrestling.com.
