NEW YORK, N.Y. – The finals have been set in the Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle divisions at the Bill Farrell Memorial International on Saturday.

Past World Team members who are in position to win gold medals are women’s freestyle stars Whitney Conder of the U.S. Army at 50 kg and Kelsey Campbell of the Sunkist Kids at 59 kg, plus Greco-Roman wrestler Chris Gonzalez of the U.S. Army at 72 kg.

Conder, who has made three U.S. Senior World Teams, scored a pushout and received a point on a shot clock violation in the second period to edge National Team member Amy Fearnside of the Titan Mercury WC, 3-2 in the semifinals. Fearnside scored the only takedown in the match, but Conder was aggressive during much of the bout.

Conder will face another National Team member Cody Pfau of the Titan Mercury WC in the finals. Pfau is coming off a win at the U23 World Team Trials last weekend.

Campbell, a 2012 Olympian and two-time World Team member, is in a four-athlete round-robin at 59 kg. Campbell enters her final match with a 2-0 record, and will face another undefeated wrestler Lauren Louive of the New York AC/Hawkeye WC to determine the gold medal.

Gonzalez, who competed at the 2016 World Championships, advanced to the finals with a 7-4 win over tough Korean opponent Gi Uk Choi, 7-4. He will face 2017 U23 World Team member Alejandro Sancho of the New York AC in the finals, after Sancho scored an 11-3 technical fall over Omar Abdo of Egypt in the semifinals. Gonzalez beat Sancho in the finals of the qualifier for the 2016 World Team.

At 87 kg, two-time World Team member Cheney Haight of the New York AC moved to the finals after pinning Courtney Myers of the U.S. Army in 3:14 in the semifinals. He will face Mohamed Moustafa of Egypt, who beat a past U.S. World Team member Joe Rau of the Minnesota Storm, 8-4 in the other semifinal.

In one of the most anticipated of the semifinal matches, 2017 Junior World champion Kamal Bey of the Sunkist Kids came from behind to defeat past National Team member Kendrick Sanders of the New York AC, 9-8. Sanders led by four points with 20 seconds to go, but Bey powered Sanders down to the mat for four points. Sanders challenged the call, which was confirmed, giving Bey the final point.

Two of the round-robins in the women’s freestyle division have determined their champions. Arelys Valles Fernandez of the University of the Cumberlands has clinched the 53 kg title, and Otgonjargal Ganbaatar of Mongolia won the title at 55 kg.

The championship finals will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m., starting with the third-place matches followed by the gold medal matches on two mats.
