Returning champion Shilson among finalists at USMC Girls Junior Folkstyle Nationals in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The championship finals have been set at the U.S. Marine Corps Girls Junior Folkstyle Nationals on Saturday morning at the Cox Convention Center.


The only returning Junior Folkstyle National champion in the field, Emily Shilson of Minnesota, has advanced to the finals at 100 pounds, where she will face Julianne Moccia of the Maryland National Team for the title.


2017 Junior Folkstyle Nationals runners-up who have reached the finals again are Felicity Taylor (Female Elite Wrestling – IA at 112), Breanna Douglas (Team Kansas at 132) and Kiana Pugh (Team Wisconsin at 152) and Alexandra Castillo (California at 180)


2018 Cadet National champions who reached the finals and are seeking a double title here in Oklahoma City are Kiley Hubby of Team Takedown – WA at 152 pounds and Katja Osteen of the California Folkstyle National Team at 164 pounds.


At 180 pounds, there were a pair of No. 1 ranked wrestlers in the quarterfinals. Alexandra Castillo of California, who is nationally No. 1 at 200, reached the finals. Defeated in the semifinals was the No. 1 ranked athlete at 180, Jesse Kirby of Virginia, was defeated by Kenya-Lee Sloan of Tennessee, who entered with a No. 7 ranking at 164 pounds. Castillo faces Sloan in the finals.


Only one finals features athletes from the same state. At 122, Viktorya Torres of Victory Wrestling will face Payton Stroud of Team Takedown in an all-Washington final.


The conclusion of the Junior Folkstyle Nationals will occur at the 3:00 p.m. session. All of the bout are broadcast live by Flowrestling
