UWW Cadet Freestyle World Team Trials semifinals set for Sunday morning in Akron

AKRON, Ohio – The Cadet Freestyle World Team Trials semifinals are set after a full day of competition on Saturday at the Louis and Freda Stile Athletic Field House in Akron, Ohio.

Below are notable quarterfinal results:

  • 45 kg: One Fargo champ, Chance Lamer, advanced to the semis, while another, Drake Ayala was upset in the quarterfinals by Maxximus Martinez, 4-2.
  • 48 kg: 2017 Cadet World Teamer Cole Skinner earned a spot in the semifinals after an 8-4 win over Daniel Wask.
  • 51 kg: Carter Young defeated No. 1 seed and 2016 Cadet freestyle Fargo champion Cullan Schriever with a 4-0 shutout.
  • 55 kg: Teague Travis defeated 2017 Cadet Greco World Team member Dylan Ragusin in a tight 13-12 decision, where Ragusin scored six points in the last minute of the bout. There are still two other past World Team members in the hunt for the spot, including Robert Howard and Julian Tagg, who were 2017 Cadet Freestyle World teammates. They are on opposite sides of the bracket.
  • 60 kg: 2017 Fargo freestyle champion Joshua Saunders and 2017 Fargo runner-up Ryan Franco advanced to the semifinals, where they will meet up for a rematch of the Fargo finals. In that match, Saunders won an 8-0 bout.
  • 65 kg: Carson Manville, who won Fargo titles in freestyle and Greco last summer, defeated 2017 Fargo Greco champ and freestyle runner-up Kevon Davenport with an 8-4 decision. The two competed at different weights last year. On the opposite side of the bracket from Manville is Fidel Mayora, a 2017 Fargo freestyle champion.
  • 71 kg: Cadet Pan Am champion and two-time Fargo runner-up Aaron Gandara was upset in the quarters, falling to Sonny Santiago, 3-1. Also moving are were 2017 freestyle Fargo champion Alex Facundo and 2018 Cadet Greco World Team Trials runner-up Jace Luchau.
  • 80 kg: 2017 freestyle Fargo champion Carter Starocci and 2017 Greco Fargo champion Abe Assad made it to the semifinals and will face each other first thing in the morning. Assad aims to make his second Cadet World Team of the weekend after winning the Greco tournament on Friday.
  • 92 kg: 2017 freestyle Fargo champion AJ Ferrari edged out a 9-8 win over two-time Fargo All-American Wyatt Hendrickson in the quarterfinals. Hendrickson scored four points in the final 15 seconds to nearly beat the Fargo champ.
  • 110 kg: All the quarterfinals at this weight ended in either a tech fall or pin. Cadet World champion Daniel Kerkvliet defeated 2018 Greco World Team Trials runner-up Joshua Heindselman with an 11-0 tech fall. Also advancing to the finals is 2018 Cadet Greco World Team member Luke Luffman.

The UWW Cadet Freestyle World Team Trials semifinals will be wrestled Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET followed by the best-of-three finals live on Flowrestling.org.
