Five Americans earn medals in first day of Grand Prix of Spain

MADRID, Spain – Five Americans brought home medals in the first day of action at the 2018 Grand Prix of Spain in Madrid, Spain, on Saturday. There were two freestyle medals and three Greco-Roman medals.
In freestyle, the U.S. sent two wrestlers, Tyler Graff and Cory Clark, who both competed at 61 kg.
Beginning on opposite sides of the bracket, Graff and Clark wrestled their ways to the finals, where they went head-to-head for gold. Graff took the title with an 11-4 decision over his fellow American.
In Greco, the U.S. Marines sent eight to the tournament, including seven that wrestled for USA and one who competed for Puerto Rico.
Grabbing medals in Greco were silver medalists Jamel Johnson at 67 kg and Trent Osnes at 130 kg and bronze winner Xavier Johnson at 63 kg.
Representing Puerto Rico, German Diaz claimed fourth at 63 kg. Also tallying top-five finishes were National Team members Peyton Walsh at 77 kg and John Stefanowicz at 82 kg.
As a result of the squad’s performance, the Marines placed third as a team.
Tomorrow, 20 U.S. women’s freestyle wrestlers will compete in the event. Among them are seven 2018 U.S. women’s freestyle World Team members. Below are tomorrow’s draws for the women.
