Earlier this week, the United States Marine Corps Semper Fidelis All-American Program announced the academy’s 2018 class of All-Americans, including high school wrestlers Eli Yankelevich and Maria Barillas. As All-Americans, Yankelevich and Barillas will represent their states at the Battles Won Academy in Washington D.C. later this summer.
To learn more about their selection to the program, watch Eli’s interview and Maria’s interview.
Proudly presented by the United State Marine Corps, the Semper Fidelis All-American Program recognizes high school students who face life’s battles with the conviction and determination to succeed. The Program taps into the irreducible essence of the Marine Corps, which is the fighting spirit of the Marine. The essence of the Marines individually and collectively is the willingness to engage and the determination to defeat an opposing force – whether personal or on behalf of our nation and its communities. These students embody the same fighting spirit that Marines stand for by taking on the challenges of succeeding academically while bettering their communities and excelling in athletics and extracurricular activities. They have turned obstacles into victories through drive and passion and will be recognized for their achievements at the exclusive Battles Won Academy.
The Battles Won Academy welcomes nearly 100 top high school junior student-leaders named as Semper Fidelis All-Americans and their mentors from around the nation for an all-expenses paid trip held in Washington D.C. At the Academy, the students and mentors will participate in daily workouts, an immersive Marine Corps experience on base in Quantico, a community service event, team building outings, and a tour of our Nation’s Capital.
This year, four-time World Team member and 2016 Olympian Robby Smith will be leading the All-Americans through a morning workout. In 2017, three-time World champion and 2016 Olympian Adeline Gray spoke at the event.
