In World finals rematch, Maroulis beats Amri to lead Haryana Hammers over Veer Marathas in India Pro League

NEW DELHI, India – 2016 Olympic champion and two-time World champion Helen Maroulis (New York, N.Y./Sunkist Kids) made a triumphant debut in the third season of the India Professional Wrestling League on Wednesday.
Competing for the Haryana Hammers, Maroulis defeated 2017 World silver medalist Marwa Amri of Tunisia, who competes for the Veer Marathas in a 57 kg bout.
Maroulis outscored Amri, 9-1, scoring three points in the first period and six in the second period. According to the press release on the India Professional League site, Maroulis finished off the match with a pin.
In the 2017 World Championship finals in Paris, Maroulis scored an 11-0 technical fall over Amri in the 58 kg gold-medal match. Maroulis in addition to her Olympic and two World titles, Maroulis also has won a 2102 World silver medal and a 2014 World bronze medal. Amri was also a 2016 Olympic bronze medalist.
Maroulis helped lead the Haryana Hammers to a 4-2 victory over the Veer Marathas in their first dual meet of the season.
Other winners for the Haryana Hammers on Wednesday were Olympic and World champion Vladimir Khinchegashvili of Georgia at men’s 57 kg, World champion Khetik Tsabolov of Russia at men’s 74 kg, Sarita of India at women’s 50 kg.
Maroulis now has a 1-0 record in the India Pro League. Her next match will be Friday, January 12 against the Delhi Sultans, who have Sangita Phogat of India on their roster at 57 kg.
In this six-team league, each team will face the other five teams in a dual meet during the regular season. There will be a playoffs semifinals round and a championship match. There is one dual meet held every night at the Siri Fort Complex in New Delhi, and shown on national television in India.
There are nine athletes on each PWL team, five men and four women. In each dual meet, two weight classes (one men’s and one women’s) will be blocked and not contested in that dual meet.
