Talented U.S. women prepare for Klippan Lady Open in Sweden, Feb. 16-18

The United States will be entering the respected Klippan Lady Open in Klippan, Sweden with a group of talented women freestylers at the Senior and Cadet levels on Feb. 16-18


In the Senior division, this serves as the first UWW Ranking Tournament, which helps set the seeds for the 2018 World Championships in Budapest, Hungry.


Leading the Senior women’s freestyle team will be three-time World champion and 2016 Olympian Adeline Gray at 76 kg/167.5 lbs. Gray was also a two-time World bronze medalist.


2017 U.S. World Team member and two-time Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix champion Tamyra Mensah (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Titan Mercury WC) will be competing for the U.S. at 68 kg/ 150 lbs.


Competing at 59 kg/130 lbs. two-time World silver medalist Alli Ragan (Carbondale Ill. / Sunkist Kids). Ragan was also a two time Junior World bronze medalist.


Two-time Junior World Champion and two-time Senior World team member Victoria Anthony (Huntington, Beach, Calif. / Sunkist Kids) is joining the team at 50 kg/110 lbs.


2017 World Team member and 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials runner-up Victoria Francis (Litchfield, Ill. /Titan Mercury) will be competing at 72 kg/158.7 lbs. Francis was a 2014 Junior World bronze medalist.


2016 Senior World Team member Sarah Hildebrandt (Colorado Springs, Colo. / New York AC) is entered at 53 kg/116.5 lbs.


Maya Nelson (Denver, Colo. /Sunkist Kids) will wrestle at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. Nelson is 2017 Junior World Champion and a U23 World Team Member.


Forrest Molinari (Colorado Springs, Colo. /Titan Mercury WC), a bronze medalist at the 2017 Pan American Championships and the 2017 gold medalist at the Dave Schultz Memorial International, will compete at 65 kg/143 lbs.


2017 U23 World Team member and U.S. Open Champion Kayla Miracle (Campbellsville, Ky. / Sunkist Kids) will represent the U.S at 62 kg. Miracle, a three-time University Nationals Champion, is attempting to win her fourth WCWA national title this weekend, competing for Campbellsville University.


Wrestling at 50 kg/110 lbs. is three-time Junior World medalist Erin Golston (Colorado Springs, Colo. /NYAC). Golston was a bronze medalist at the Klippan three years ago.


Competing at 55kg/121 lbs. is Ronna Heaton (Brookings, S.D. / Sunkist Kids), a UWW Cadet World gold medalist in 2015, and a Cadet World silver medalist in 2016. Heaton also came in second place at the 2017 U23 Team Trials.


2017 World Team member and two-time WCWA National champion Mallory Velte will wrestle at 62 kg/136.6 lbs. Last year she placed fifth at the Klippan Lady Open.


Additional Senior Women’s freestyle team members to compete at Klippan Lady Open are Amy Fearnside (Jamestown, N.D. / Titan Mercury WC) at 50 kg/110 lbs., Jacarra Winchester (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Titan Mercury WC) at 55 kg/121 lbs., Lauren Louive (Iowa City, Iowa / Hawkeye WC) and Koral Sugiyama (Pocatello, Idaho / Campbellsville) both at 59 kg/130 lbs. In addition, Jennifer Page (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Titan Mercury WC) at 62 kg/136.6 lbs., Julia Salata (Bristol, Tenn. / New York AC) at 68 kg/150 lbs. and Rachel Watters (Ankeny, Iowa / Aires WC) at 72 kg/158.7 lbs. will also wrestle.


Leading the Cadet women’s freestyle team at 62 kg/ 136.6 lbs. is 2016 Cadet World bronze medalist and 2017 Cadet Junior National champion Macey Kilty (Stratford, Wisc.). Kilty won gold at the 2017 Klippan Lady Open.


2017 Cadet World silver medalist and Cadet Junior National gold medalist Emily Shilson will wrestle for the U.S. at 46kg/ 101.4 lbs.


There will be six U.S. Cadet athletes competing in the tournament this year. All three of USA Wrestling’s National Women’s Coaches (Terry Steiner, Emma Randall, Clarissa Chun) will help coach this team, along with Coach Chad Shilson.
