FORTALEZA, Brazil – The U.S. women’s freestyle team collected two gold medals and five silver medals en route to a first-place team finish at the 2018 Junior Pan American Championships in Fortaleza, Brazil.

Highlighting the day was Golden Boot winner Bri Csontos, who put together a perfect 4-0 day and gave up only two points the entire tournament.

In her gold-medal match at 62 kg, Csontos only spent 47 seconds on the mat, all of which she used productively. Taking on Paula Montoya Garcia of Colombia, Csontos threw her opponent to her back for four points and later worked a front quarter to get the Colombian on her back again for the fall.

To win gold at 55 kg, Cameron Guerin, a 2017 Junior World Team member, capped off a dominant day with a pin over Leticia Lopes Goncalves of Brazil. Guerin led the Brazilian, 8-0, at the time of the fall, which was at 1:09.

It was the American’s second fall of the day and third win overall. She adds to her 2017 Cadet Pan Am gold medal.

In round-five action at 53 kg, 2017 Cadet World Team member Vayle Baker made quick work of Fernanda Aldez Lopez of Ecuador, scoring 14 points in 2:44 for a 14-3 technical fall. Once action was completed at 53 kg, Baker was awarded the silver medal, finishing behind last year’s runner-up Jayd Davis of Canada.

2015 Cadet World bronze medalist Kayla Marano finished with a silver medal at 68 kg, pinning Grabriela Pedro da Rocha of Brazil halfway through the first period set up by a fireman’s carry. Marano finished 1-1 on the day.

Also finishing round-robin action with wins for silver was Michaela Beck at 57 kg and Andrea Sennett at 72 kg.

Beck cruised past 2017 Cadet Pan Am runner-up Susana Lozano of Mexico with a 7-2 decision, while Sennett dominated in a 10-2 win over Krizia Roa of Peru.

Brenda Reyna wrapped up a 3-1 day, falling in the 59 kg finals to Katherine Renteria Cuero of Colombia, 8-2. Earlier in the day, Reyna picked up a first-period fall and a 10-0 technical fall.

Reyna will represent the United States at the Junior World Championships in Trnava, Slovakia, next month.

Recording a fourth-place finish was Ashlynn Ortega at 65 kg. She went 2-2 on the day, losing her final match in a wild back-and-forth against 2016 Cadet Pan Am bronze medalist Megan Fendelet of Canada, who eventually got the pin at 5:28.

Felicity Taylor fell in the 50 kg bronze-medal match, losing to Evelyn Matos Santos of Brazil, 6-1, to finish fifth.

As a team, the U.S. finished with 172 points, beating second-place Mexico by 20 points. Canada rounded out the top-three with 135 points.

The Junior Pan Ams wrap up on Sunday with men’s freestyle action starting at 9 a.m. ET live on Trackwrestling.
