Leathers accepts Final X berth, and will compete for U.S. World Team spot in Lincoln, Neb. on June 9

2017 World bronze medalist Becka Leathers (Choctaw, Okla./Titan Mercury WC) has officially accepted her berth in Final X, and will battle for a spot on the 2018 U.S. World Team in women’s freestyle in Final X in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, June 9.


The event will be hosted at the Bob Devaney Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, starting at 6 p.m. CST, with exclusive live and on-demand coverage on FloWrestling, as well as on the FloSports apps on iOS, Roku and Apple TV 4.


In her first Senior World champions, Leathers won a World bronze medal at 55 kg in Paris, France. She won gold medals at the 2017 Pan American Championships and the 2017 Dave Schultz Memorial. Leathers recently won the 2018 U23 World Team Trials. She was a 2015 Junior World bronze medalist, and made competed in two Junior World Championships and one Cadet World Championships. She was a WCWA national champion for Oklahoma City Univ. in 2016. She competed for Choctaw High School in Oklahoma.

The Final X series will determine the 2018 U.S. Senior World Teams in men’s and women’s freestyle wrestling, held in three different locations and dates in June.


The Team Selection procedures for the U.S. World Teams in men’s and women’s freestyle allow for 2017 Senior World medalists to advance directly to Final X at a specified weight class. Leathers has met this requirement and accepted her qualification.


In Lincoln, the top two men’s and women’s freestyle wrestlers in each of seven weight classes will compete in a best-of-three series, with winners earning spots on the U.S. Senior World Team to compete at the 2018 World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Oct. 20-28, 2018.


The weight classes assigned to the Final X event in Lincoln are:

● Men's freestyle weight classes (57 kg, 70 kg, 74 kg, 97 kg)

● Women's freestyle weight classes (55 kg, 59 kg, 68 kg)


The Final X opponent for Leathers will be determined at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament for men’s and women’s freestyle, set for Rochester, Minn., May 18-20.


In Lincoln, Ticket prices are available in four pricing levels:

• VIP seating for $75.00

• Reserved seating (online option for early buyers) for $50.00

• General Admission seating (first come, first serve) for $30.00

• Age 2 and under are free


There will be 10% off for group tickets of 10 or more in a single order (for general admission only).


In addition to Final X in Lincoln, the Final X series includes Final X in State College on June 16 and Final X at Lehigh on June 23. USA Wrestling and FloWrestling will announce each of the athletes in Final X as they qualify.
