Final five U.S. wrestlers weigh in and get draws for last day of CISM Military Worlds in Greece

KLAIPEDA, Lithuania - The final five U.S. athletes have weighed in and received their draws for the CISM World Military Championships, which conclude on Saturday. There are four U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers on the mat, in the highest weight classes, and one U.S. women’s freestyle athlete.


In Greco-Roman, SGT Courtney Myers of the U.S. Army opens at 80 kg/176 lbs. against 2015 Olympic Tournament champion Nikolaos Varkas of Greece.


Myers sits in the bottom half of an 14-athlete bracket. Other nations represented in his half-bracket are Lithuania, Iran, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia and Estonia.


SGT John Stefanowicz of the U.S. Marine Corps starts off at 85 kg/187 lbs. against 2012 Cadet World silver medalist Mahdi Fallah Hamidabadi of Iran.


Stefanowicz is on the bottom half of a 13-athlete bracket. Other nations represented in his half-bracket are Russia, Algeria, Finland, Korea, Lithuania and China.


In his first match at 98 kg/215 lbs., 1LT Daniel Miller of the U.S. Marine Corps will face Spyridon Kountaratzis of Greece, who was fifth in the 2016 CISM Military Worlds.


Miller has drawn into the bottom half of an 14-athlete bracket. Other nations represented in his half-bracket are Lithuania, Ukraine, Algeria, Russia, Poland and Belarus.


LCPL Eric Fader of the U.S. Marine Corps has drawn 2017 European Junior bronze medalist Lenard Istvan Berei of Romania in his first bout at 130 kg/286 lbs.


Fader is in the bottom half of an 14-athlete bracket. Other nations represented in his half-bracket are Russia, Greece, Azerbaijan, China, Iran and Armenia.


PV2 Anastasia Lobsinger of the U.S. Army will wrestle at 75 kg/165 lbs., a six-athlete weight class which has been split into two pools. Lobsinger will first face 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Agnieszka Wieszczek-Kordus of Poland, then will battle three-time Junior World silver medalist Cynthia Vescan of France. Based upon the results of those two matches, Lobsinger will advance to a placement match.
