The relief effort in Texas since Hurricane Harvey’s devastation of the state in region has been remarkable, as so many people have come together to lend assistance to many Americans and their families who have been affected by the disaster.
One of the groups that has made a huge impact has been the grass-roots Louisiana Cajun Navy, volunteers who have come to Texas on their own time and at their own expense with their boats, and have gone into flooded communities to help save citizens who have been stranded by the flood waters.
Two major Olympic wrestling heroes have stepped up to support the LA Cajun Navy, two-time Olympian and UFC World champion Daniel Cormier, a Louisiana native, and 2000 Olympic champion and current Pennsylvania RTC head coach Brandon Slay, who is a native of Texas.
They are encouraging everybody who wishes to help this organization and its work in Texas relief efforts to purchase t-shirts and hats at the website below:

Cormier, a Lafayette, La. native, competed on the 2004 and 2008 Olympic freestyle team and was a 2007 World bronze medalist. He was an NCAA Div. I runner-up for Oklahoma State, and an NJCAA Junior College national champion for Colby CC. Cormier has gone on to a remarkable career in Mixed Martial Arts, where he has been the UFC Light heavyweight champion. Below is Daniel’s Twitter post.
Slay, an Amarillo, Texas native, won a gold medal at 76 kg at the 2000 Olympic Games. A two-time NCAA runner-up for Penn, Slay worked as an Assistant National Freestyle Coach for USA Wrestling for many years. He is currently the Executive Director and coach for the Pennsylvania Regional Training Center in Philadelphia. His post is below:
This t-shirt fundraining effort has been organized by APS, USA Wrestling’s merchandising partner, as a way to give back to those who have made a difference in the relief effort in Texas, and to be a good citizen within the Texas community by helping others. 100% of the proceeds will support the Louisiana Cajun Navy.
According to its Facebook Page, the Louisiana Cajun Navy’s is all about helping others. It says: “We the people of Louisiana refuse to stand by and wait for help in the wake of disasters in our State. We rise up and unite and rescue our neighbors!”
