Byrd, Lovett, Johnson, Phillips and Schultz receive draws for first day of Cadet World Championships

ATHENS, Greece – The first five U.S. Cadet Greco-Roman representatives received draws for day-one competition of the 2017 Cadet World Championships in Athens, Greece.
With the new two-day format, Cadets will not weigh-in until the morning of their competition dates.
At 50 kg/110 lbs., five-time Fargo All-American Lucas Byrd will don the Red, White and Blue. To open his tournament Byrd drew Yordan Ruzhdi Nedzhat of Bulgaria, who took ninth at the 2017 Cadet European Championships.
2016 Cadet Greco national champion Ridge Lovett will represent at 54 kg/119 lbs., taking on Muhammed Acar of Turkey in the first round.
Two-time Cadet World Team member Malik Johnson will come face-to-face with another two-time Cadet World teamer Mustafa Yildirim of Turkey at 58 kg/127 lbs. Yildirim took silver at this year’s Cadet European Championships.
Mason Phillips, a two-time Fargo champion, will open his tournament at 63 kg/139 lbs. against Shintaro Yoshinaga of Japan, who placed 11th at the 2016 Cadet Asian Championships.
Cohlton Schultz will suit up for Team USA for the second time this summer, this time at 100 kg/220 lbs. Schultz wrestled up a weight class last month at the Junior World Championships. To start his Cadet run, he’ll face Mexico’s Edson Acuna Salazar, who was the silver medalist at the 2017 Cadet Pan American Championships.
This is the second Cadet World Championships for Schultz. Last year, he finished 12th in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Wrestlers will compete through the semifinals in their first day of competition with repechage and medal matches to be contested the following day.
The preliminary rounds and repechage begin at 10:30 a.m. local time (3:30 a.m. ET), with semifinals beginning at 6:30 p.m. local time (11:30 a.m. ET).
