Helen Maroulis came into a new four-year Olympic cycle when she entered the 2013 Dave Schultz Memorial International. A U.S. Senior World Team member at age 17 and a three-time Junior World medalist, Maroulis was fresh off winning her first Senior World medal, with a silver medal at the 2012 World Championships in Canada. It was her fourth U.S. World Team, but she still had not reached her goal of competing in the Olympics. At the 2013 Dave Schultz Memorial, she battled a young Chinese star, Yuanyuan Xiao of China in the finals. It was a strong start to a new year. Maroulis would go on to make history in that four-year cycle, winning a 2014 World bronze and a 2015 World title. At the 2016 Olympics, Maroulis became the first USA woman to win an Olympic gold medal. After another World title in 2017, Maroulis is one of the best in the world right now.
