Miranda wins gold, Boykin gets silver and Peak takes bronze at Klippan Cup in Sweden

KLIPPAN, Sweden – Three U.S. wrestlers captured medals at the Klippan Cup of Greco-Roman on Saturday. Leading the way was a gold-medal performance by Randon Miranda (Palmdale, Calif./NMU-OTS) at 59 kg/130 lbs.
Miranda, a member of the 2017 U.S. Junior World Team, won four matches to claim the title. He defeated Swedish wrestler Anton Rosen of the host Klippans BK club, 7-1 in the finals.
To reach the finals, Miranda stopped Linus Markusson of Sweden in a 9-0 technical fall, then beat American Jon Massey in a 10-0 technical fall. Miranda reached the finals with a 4-2 win over Christoffer Svensson of Sweden.
Capturing a silver medal was USOTC resident athlete Nick Boykin (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 130 kg/286 lbs. Boykin was beaten in the gold-medal finals by Kalle Persson of Sweden, 11-0.
He won two matches to reach the final round, pinning American Marc Leon then stopping Sweden’s Anton Euren, 7-4.
Claiming a bronze at 59 kg/130 lbs. was Benji Peak (Elhorn, Wis./NMU-OTS) at 59 kg/130 lbs. Peak scored an 11-3 technical fall in his bronze-medal bout over Swedish wrestler Christoffer Svensson. He finished his day with a strong 3-1 record.
There were 24 USA wrestlers in the tournament, a majority from the Northern Michigan University – U.S. Olympic Training Site team.
Just missing a medal by placing fourth at 71 kg/156 lbs. was Peyton Robb (Medford, Minn./Minnesota Storm). Robb lost a wild 18-17 bronze-medal battle to Sweden’s Lukas Ahlgren. He won his first two matches, then lost his pool final before moving on to the bronze-medal bout. Robb won the 2017 Junior Nationals Greco-Roman title.
