Beauperthuy places fifth on final day of Beach World Championships in Turkey

DALYAN, Turkey - Gabe Beauperthuy (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado USA Wrestling) placed fifth at the Unlimited weight class in the men’s Senior division on the final day of the Beach World Championships on Sunday.
Only the medal rounds in two men’s weight classes were held on Sunday. Beauperthuy lost in his bronze medal bout to Ergin Dagli of Turkey, 2-0.
On Saturday, Beauperthuy opened with a 3-0 decision over Sigmund Widerberg of Norway. In his next match, he was defeated by Pouga Rahmani of Iran, 3-0. When Rahmani reached the gold-medal finals, Beauperthuy was pulled back into repechage where he beat Serkan Sertturk of Turkey, 3-1.
Beauperthuy is one of the most active athletes in USA Wrestling’s Associated Styles program. Next week, he will be in Baku, Azerbaijan to compete at the Grappling World Championships, as both a Senior and Veterans Grappler. Last year, he was a Veterans World champion in Grappling. He also competes in Belt wrestling, as well as the Olympic styles of wrestling.
He is the second U.S. wrestler to place fifth at the Beach Worlds, as Michael Peters (Quincy, Ill./Road Dawgs WC) also placed fifth at 70 kg on Friday.
Also competing for Team USA at 90 kg/198 lbs. was Briar Runyan (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville Madmen WC), who fell in his opener against Pavlis Theodosios of Greece, 3-0 and did not reach the medal rounds.
