Parrish, Black, Nelson and Watters receive draws for U23 World Championships

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland – The first four U.S. women’s freestyle wrestlers received their draws for the U23 World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
2017 Senior National Team member and 20th annual Dave Schultz Memorial International bronze medalist Dominique Parrish (Scotts Valley, Calif./Burnaby Mountain WC) will face 2017 Senior World champion and 2016 Cadet World champion Haruna Okuno of Japan in her first World tournament, wrestling at 55 kg/121 lbs.
Parrish is a two-time All-American at Simon Fraser University.
McKendree standout and University Nationals champion Megan Black (Batavia, Iowa/Bearcat WC) is also making her World debut in Poland. She’ll take on 2016 Junior World silver medalist Nadezhda Dragunova of Belarus in her first match at 58 kg/128 lbs.
2017 Junior World champion Maya Nelson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) seeks her second World title of the year after taking top prize at the Junior World Championships in Tampere, Finland, in August.
Tomorrow, she’s opens her U23 World tournament against Russia’s Tatyana Smoliak, who’s only international experience is the 2017 Alrosa Cup.
Three-time Junior World Team member and Oklahoma City University All-American Rachel Watters (Ankeny, Iowa/Aries WC) heads into her second World Championships of the year. In Finland at Junior Worlds, Watters notched a top-10 finish.
Watters will face Aysegul Ozbege of Turkey in her first match at 75 kg/165 lbs. Ozbege does not have any international credentials.
The preliminary rounds begin at 10 a.m. local time (4 a.m. ET), with the medal matches beginning at 6 p.m. (12 p.m. ET) each day. Bydgoszcz is six hours ahead of the U.S. Eastern time zone.
