IRVING, Texas – The best-of-three finals series for the UWW Cadet World Team Trials are set and will take place Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT at the Irving Convention Center in Irving, Texas.
The finals will feature three Cadet World medalists, including two-time Cadet World Team member and 2016 World bronze medalist Gracie Figueroa (56 kg/123.2lbs.) and fellow 2016 World bronze medalists Macey Kilty (60 kg/132 lbs.) and Alara Boyd (65 kg/143 lbs.).
All three are set to face 2016 freestyle national champions. Figueroa will face 2016 Junior champ and Cadet runner-up Michaela Beck in a 2016 Cadet Fargo finals rematch, while Kilty will see 2016 Cadet and Junior champion Alexandria Liles. Boyd is slated to match up with 2016 Cadet national champion Hannah Ramos.
The only remaining Cadet World medalist still eligible at the Cadet level was 2015 World silver medalist and 2016 World bronze medalist Alleida Martinez, who fell to Cameron Guerin in the 52 kg/114.4 lbs. semifinal, 8-4. Guerin was crowned a 2016 Junior freestyle national champion in Fargo, N.D.
2016 Cadet World Team member Caitlyn Walker has made her way back to the finals. The Fargo champ will face Kristal Betanzo in the 40 kg/88 lbs. final.
Emily Shilson, who bulldozed her way to Cadet and Junior national titles last summer, advanced to the 43 kg/94.6 lbs. finals, where she’ll face Samara Chavez.
Also securing spots in their respective finals are 2016 Cadet freestyle national runner-up Alisha Howk and Tilynne Vasquez, who finished third in Fargo last summer.
Two non-World weights finals will also be contested tonight, 78 kg/171.6 lbs. and 84 kg/184.8 lbs. Each final will be only one match.
The 84 kg final features a pair of hammers, including 2016 Cadet freestyle national runner-up Kaylee Seabolt and 2016 Body Bar champion Sierra Adams-Gregory.
The champion at 100 kg/220 lbs. was determined in the afternoon session through a round-robin bracket. ShaMia Wells of Western Stars Wrestling Club won the non-World weight bracket, taking out all three of her opponents with solid performances, including two pins.
The finals for the other 10 weights will begin at 6 p.m. CT. They will be held alongside the Schoolgirl Nationals finals. Catch all the action live Flowrestling.com.
