Enter the Beach & Belt Nationals in Carolina Beach on May 20 for a great competition plus fun in the sun

USA Wrestling’s next national championship event will be the U.S. Beach and Belt Nationals, set for Carolina Beach, N.C. on Saturday, May 20.
This offers a national championship in a variety of age levels, from youth age divisions, to the Senior division, and also a Masters division.
It also serves as the World Team Trials event which qualifies athletes for UWW World Championships in two growing Associated Styles of wrestling, Beach Wrestling and Belt Wrestling.
Even better, it offers wrestling families a chance for a competitive event, while being able to enjoy the beach and the sun on a popular Atlantic Ocean coastline. The city of Carolina Beach has made some impressive upgrades to its boardwalk and other parts of its beach community, and is excited to welcome all visitors, including those who will be visiting there for the first time.
Here is an exciting event that will allow athletes a chance to win two national wrestling titles on the same day. The U.S. Beach Nationals will be followed immediately by the U.S. Belt Nationals, right there in the sand on Carolina Beach.
To encourage those attending the Beach Nationals to try Belt Wrestling, there will only be an additional $10 entry fee for Beach wrestlers to also enter the Belt Nationals. USA Wrestling will also have a number of belts available, for those who do not have a belt to use when they compete in the Belt division.
Those athletes who win national titles in both Beach Wrestling and Belt Wrestling will be recognized as “double champions” at the conclusion of the tournaments. Test yourself in two different styles!!

Want to go overseas and represent the United States at a World Championships event? The Beach Nationals and Belt Nationals are qualifiers for USA World Teams in each style.
In Belt Wrestling, United World Wrestling has two different World events in 2017. The 2017 Belt World Championships for the Alysh style will be held in Wroclaw, Poland, July 26-30. The 2017 Belt World Championships in the Kazakh Kuresh style will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, August 18-21.
Currently, United World Wrestling has not yet announced the date and site for the 2017 Beach World Wrestling Championships, which is expected to be held in Europe in September. Not only will the Beach Worlds feature athletes on the Senior level, but there will be competition at the Beach Worlds at the Cadet and Junior levels as well.
In addition to a variety of youth and Senior divisions, the Beach Nationals also offers a Masters division. USA Wrestling offers Masters wrestlers another national competition at the Beach Nationals. So far this year, Masters wrestlers have competed in folkstyle, Greco-Roman and freestyle. Add in the Masters Beach Nationals on May 20 in Carolina Beach, and the Masters Grappling Nationals in Fresno, Calif. on June 2-4, and we will see who the true Ironmen and Ironwomen of Masters wrestling are this year.
For the first time, USA Wrestling will be offering a team trophy to the best club program at the Beach Nationals this year. There will be a championship team trophy covering all of the Youth divisions, and another championship team trophy for teams which enter at the Senior and Masters level. Bring a big team, and see if you can bring home one of the U.S. Beach Cup trophies as a Beach Wrestling national champion team.
There are two fun social activities planned for the tournaments. On Friday, May 19, an optional registration and weigh-in for the competition will be hosted again at the Lazy Pirate Sports Bar, located just a short walk from the beach. The Lazy Pirate has sand volleyball courts, which will be converted into Beach Wrestling rings and Belt Wrestling rings, allowing wrestlers a chance for some exhibition matches to prepare for Saturday’s competition. This has been a popular part of the Beach Nationals each year.
Those wishing to weigh in on Saturday can do so on Carolina Beach on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. But those who are able to make it on Friday night will be able to have a good time while weighing in.
In addition, after the tournaments are completed on Carolina Beach on Saturday, a Post-Tournament Social has been organized again for adult wrestlers and tournament officials at the Good Hops Brewing Company in Carolina Beach.
Where else can you go for some great wrestling competition, and a day on a beautiful beach on the Atlantic Ocean? Ask anybody who has attended a Beach Wrestling event, and they will tell you that it is a lot of fun and worth the time to attend.
