Olympic champion Kyle Snyder (Woodbine, Md./Titan Mercury WC) and World champion Logan Stieber (Columbus, Ohio/Titan Mercury WC) lead the U.S. men’s freestyle contingent into the Pan American Championships in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, May 5-7.

Snyder returns to Brazil for the first time since winning his Olympic gold medal last August. At age 20, he set the bar as the youngest American wrestler to win the Olympic Games with his golden performance in Rio. He achieved a similar feat at the 2015 World Championships, securing gold at age 19 during his first trip to the big show.

Snyder last competed at the NCAA Championships in March, bringing home his second individual NCAA crown for Ohio State. He also took top prize at the highly-competitive Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, back in January. He will compete at 97 kg/213 lbs. at the Pan American Championships.

Stieber will man the 61 kg/134 lbs. slot for the U.S. in Brazil, the same weight where he won his World title last December. In his last outing, Stieber went 3-1 at the Freestyle World Cup held in Kermanshah, Iran, back in February. Among his many credentials include a Junior World silver medal from 2011 and winning four NCAA championships for Ohio State.

Both Snyder and Stieber enter the Pan American Championships ranked No. 1 in the World by United World Wrestling.

Coming in as the fourth-ranked wrestler in the World at 70 kg/154 lbs., 2015 World bronze medalist James Green (Lincoln, Neb./Titan Mercury WC) is a strong favorite to take gold in Brazil. Green is a two-time U.S. World Team member and finished with a silver medal at this event in 2016. He just picked up his first U.S. Open championship last weekend.

The U.S. will be strong at 125 kg/275 lbs. with defending Pan American champion Dom Bradley (Ames, Iowa/Sunkist Kids) returning for more Pan American glory. Bradley has placed in the top three at every tournament he has wrestled since taking third at last year’s Olympic Trials. He comes in as No. 18 in the UWW World Rankings, and just took third place at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas.

A red-hot Tyler Graff (New Brunswick, N.J./Titan Mercury WC) is the U.S. representative at 57 kg/125.5 lbs. Graff has won three international gold medals since placing third at the 2016 Olympic Trials and has climbed to No. 17 in the UWW World Rankings. He last competed at the Cerro Pelado International in Havana, Cuba, winning three matches en route to gold.

The remaining U.S. entrants for the Pan American Championships are 2013 U.S. Open champion Kellen Russell (Ann Arbor, Mich./New York AC/Cliff Keen WC) at 65 kg/143 lbs., 2014 Junior World bronze medalist Gabe Dean (Lowell, Mich./Titan Mercury WC/Finger Lakes WC) at 86 kg/189 lbs. and past U.S. National Team member Kyle Ruschell (Madison, Wis./New York AC/Badger WC) at 74 kg/163 lbs.

Following the recent events from the U.S. World Team Trials in Las Vegas, four lineup changes have been made for the Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle teams set to compete in Brazil.

U.S. World Team Trials champions Pat Smith (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) and Cheney Haight (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) assume spots in the Greco-Roman lineup at 71 kg/156 lbs. and 80 kg/176 lbs., respectively.

On the women’s freestyle team, U.S. World Team Trials champion Becka Leathers (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC) jumps into the 55 kg/121 lbs. slot, while Forrest Molinari (Benicia, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) gets the nod at 69 kg/152 lbs.

The men’s freestyle tournament will be held on May 7, the final day of competition in Brazil. Greco-Roman will compete on May 5, followed by women’s freestyle on May 6. For all three days, the tournament will begin at 10 a.m. local time with the qualification rounds and repechage. The finals are set for 5 p.m. local time each day. Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, is situated one hour ahead of U.S. Eastern Time.

United World Wrestling will provide a live stream of the event and complete results to those residing in the U.S. through Trackwrestling.com.
