American women receive draws for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Spain

MADRID, Spain – All 18 American women received their draws for Sunday’s women’s freestyle tournament at the Grand Prix of Spain at the Pabellón Exterior del CSD in Madrid, Spain.

Seven of the eight U.S. women’s freestyle World Team members will wrestle this weekend, including 2016 World silver medalist Alli Ragan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids WC) and 2016 Olympian Haley Augello (Lockport, Ill./New York AC).

Other World Team members featured are Victoria Anthony (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids WC), Becka Leathers (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC), Mallory Velte (Sacramento, Calif./Titan Mercury WC), Tamyra Mensah (Katy, Texas/Titan Mercury WC) and Victoria Francis (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC).

Ragan, a six-time U.S. World Team member, will open her tournament against 2010 World bronze medalist and 2005 Junior World champion Johanna Mattsson of Sweden at 60 kg/132 lbs.

Augello, who will wrestle at 53 kg/116.5lbs., is set to meet up with 2017 Mongolia champion Otgonjargal Ganbaatar of Mongolia.

At 69 kg/152 lbs., Mensah, who became the sixth U.S. woman to win the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix, will go head-to-head with Spain’s Noelia Lalin, a two-time Mediterranean Championship runner-up and fifth-place finisher at the 2016 University Worlds.

Two-time World Teamer and four-time WCWA champion Anthony kick her competition at 48 kg/106 lbs. battling Canada’s Amber Weibe, who took fifth at Canada Cup this year. It was Weibe only international competition.

On the other hand at 55 kg/121 lbs., Leathers will take on veteran Lenka Hockova, who has represented Czech Republic in eight World Championships and owns a bronze medal from the 2017 Grand Prix of Paris.

2016 Canada Cup champion Velte drew Laetitia Blot of France at 63 kg/139 lbs. Bolt took bronze at the 2016 Henri Deglane Challenge in November.

At 75 kg/165 lbs., 2014 Junior World bronze medalist Victoria Francis will meet up with 2014 Junior World bronze medalist Iselin Solheim of Norway in the first round. Solheim is a 2015 Nordic champion and two-time Nordic runner-up.

World Team Trials runners-up Kayla Miracle and Maya Nelson both drew Olympians in the first round. Miracle will have a tough opponent in 2016 Olympic bronze medalist and nine-time African champion Marwa Amri of Tunisia at 58 kg/128 lbs., while Nelson will face Adela Hanzlickova of Czech Republic, who recently won silver at the U23 European Championships.

Other National Team members set to compete include Cody Pfau (Brush, Colo./Titan Mercury WC) at 48 kg, Erin Golston (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 48 kg, Dominique Parrish (Scotts Valley, Calif./Sunkist Kids WC) at 55 kg and Jacarra Winchester (Marshall, Mo./Titan Mercury WC) at 58 kg.

Rounding out the U.S. women’s delegation are Arian Carpio (Scottsdale, Ariz./Sunkist WC) at 60 kg, Randi Beltz (Saint Clair, Mo./Titan Mercury WC) at 60 kg, Alexis Porter (Niskayuna, N.Y./New York AC) at 63 kg, Amanda Hendey (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC) at 63 kg and Forrest Molinari (Benicia, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) at 69 kg.

Beltz and Carpio will face each other in the first round.

The competition in Spain will begin at 9 a.m. local time.
