Today is the last day of Women’s Wrestling Week, and USA Wrestling is encouraging female wrestlers, coaches and families to post photos and videos today in celebration of girls wrestling at #GirlsWrestle.
Since Feb. 10, wrestling people across the nation and world have made posting on Twitter and Facebook and other social media depicting women and girls in wrestling, using the hashtag #GirlsWrestle. The photo to the left, and a number of photos posted below were included on the social media posts.
The week began with a major women’s college event, the WCWA Women’s College Nationals, which was won by King University for the fourth straight year.
The week ends today with the completion of a major Senior women’s international event, the Klippan Lady Open, held in Klippan, Sweden. The USA was led by fifth-place finishers Amy Fearnside, Arian Carpio and Mallory Velte. This is one of the toughest women’s Senior-level Open events in world this year.
In addition, this weekend marked the official high school state championships in girls wrestling in three states, Hawaii, Washington and Tennessee, as well as the Regional Championships in Texas. Below are some clips which mention the girls high school championships in those states.
MAUI NEWS: Lahainaluna girls win four individual titles, claim second team crown
HONOLULU STAR ADVERTISER: Lahainaluna dominates to win girls wrestling title
SEATTLE TIMES: Kamiak’s Ally de la Cruz finally gets her first state wrestling crown
THE TENNESSEAN: Father Ryan's King wins 4th title; Irish win DII wrestling
This year, many more states are looking at the possibility of adding state championships for high school girls, with exploratory events held in Kansas, Colorado and other states.
USA Wrestling has posted a series of feature articles on girls and women in wrestling this past week, with a special focus on college wrestling and high school wrestling.
So, in celebration of all of this wrestling opportunity for girls and women, let’s post some more photos and videos, like the photos below that have been placed in social media with #GirlsWrestle.
