Campbellsville women dominate NAIA Invitational with six champs and team title

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University women’s squad picked up the team title on Saturday at the NAIA Invitational, which they hosted at Powell Gymnasium in Campbellsville, Ky.

The Tigers ran away with the team title, putting up 210.5 points, which is 31.75 points more than second-place University of the Cumberlands and 111.25 points more that third-place Missouri Baptist.

Campbellsville’s impressive day included six champions and two runners-up among the 14 wrestlers they entered in the event.

Winning titles for the Tigers included two-time Junior World team member McKayla Campbell at 109 pounds, three-time All-American Shelby Hall at 130 pounds, U.S. Senior National Team member and three-time WCWA champion Kayla Miracle at 136 pounds, Alexia Foca at 143 pounds, 2017 All-American Mariah Harris at 170 and Kaitlyn Hill at 191 pounds.

Miracle won the tournament just a day after returning to American soil. She spent three weeks overseas in Poland and Russia competing for Team USA at the U23 World Championships, World Cup and Russia Cup.  

Producing runner-up finishes at the NAIA Invitational for Campbellsville was 2017 All-American Charlotte Fowler at 109 pounds and Courtney Gray at 143 pounds.

University of the Cumberlands also tallied multiple champs on the day, with titles coming from 2017 All-American Maia Phanthadara at 101 pounds, sophomore Madison Angelito at 116 pounds and senior Sidney Salinas at 123 pounds.

The 155-pound crown went to U.S. National Team member and three-time All-American Niauni Hill of Lindenwood-Belleville. She won all three of her matches by either fall or technical fall.

Rounding out the top-seven teams behind Campbellsville, University of the Cumberlands and Missouri Baptist were Missouri Valley in fourth with 77.5 points, Lindenwood-Belleville in fifth with 73 points, Bacone College in sixth with 36 points and Lyon College in seventh with 32.5 points.
