TAMPERE, Finland – U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers Cevion Severado, Taylor LaMont, Kamal Bey and G’Angelo Hancock have received their draws for the 2017 Junior World Championships in Tampere, Finland.
At 50 kg/110 lbs., Severado (St. Peters, Mo./Xtreme RTC) will open his first World Championships against Maksym Vysotskyi of Israel. Vysotskyi was seventh at the European Championships and recently took fifth at the Maccabi Games.
Should Severado win, he’ll take on either Poland’s Dominik Dudzinski, who finished eighth in the World last year or Ukraine’s Mykola Stepaniuk.
2016 Junior World bronze medalist LaMont (Mapleton, Utah/Sunkist Kids WC) will begin his journey to gold, facing 2015 Cadet World bronze medalist Maksim Nehoda of Belarus at 60 kg/132 lbs.
A LaMont win would put him against the winner of Nuzupbek Topchubaev of Kyrgyzstan and 2017 Junior European Championships runner-up Ardit Fazljija of Sweden.
Topchubaev won Junior World bronze at 55 kg last year, while Fazljija finished 11th.
Two-time Junior World Teamer Bey (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids WC) drew Pilkeun Bong of Korea for his first match at 74 kg/163 lbs. Bong has no international credentials.
If Bey wins, he will go head-to-head with either Victor Buzu of Moldova or Karan Mosebach of Germany.
Mosebach was ninth at the 2017 Junior European Championships. Buzu has not competed internationally since 2014.
2016 Junior World bronze medalist Hancock (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC/Sunkist Kids WC) will wrestle Damian Von Euw of Switzerland to begin his third Junior World Championships.
Von Euw was fifth at this year’s Junior European Championships.
If he wins, Hancock will have the winner of Kiril Milov of Bulgaria and Tehran Aminzade of Azerbaijan.
Milov was fifth at the 2016 Cadet World Championships, while Aminzade took fifth at the 2016 Cadet World Championships.
The first session, which includes preliminary rounds through semifinals and repechage, will begin at 10 a.m. local time. The medal matches will take place at 6 p.m. local time.
Tampere, Finland is seven hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Time, meaning those wishing to watch live can tune in at 3 a.m. (ET). A live stream of the event, as well as brackets, can be found at Trackwrestling.com.
