Heaton, Liles repeat as USA Wrestling Girls Junior Folkstyle National champions in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Ronna Heaton of South Dakota (117) and Alexandria Liles of Texas (130) repeated as champions at the USA Wrestling Girls Junior Folkstyle National Championships held at the Freede Center on the campus of Oklahoma City University.
Heaton edged Washington star Brenda Reyna, 8-6 in the finals. Heaton was the 112-pound champion last year at this event. Last summer, Heaton was a UWW Cadet World champion for the United States.
Liles won the 130-pound title for the second year in the row. She stopped Allicyn Schuster of Nebraska, 9-3 in the finals. Liles was also a double champion this week, after winning the Cadet National Folkstyle title at 132 pounds yesterday.
There were three double champions, winners of both the Cadet title and the Junior title this year. Joining Liles as double champions were Macey Kilty of Wisconsin at 112 pounds and Gracie Figueroa of California at 121 pounds.
Kilty defeated Autumn Gordon of Ohio, 7-1 in the finals. She had won the 108 pound Cadet title on Friday. Kilty was second in the 2015 Wisconsin state high school championships competing against boys.
Figueroa pinned Alanah Vetterick of Iowa in 3:25 in the finals. She was the 124 pound Cadet champion on Friday. Figueroa was also a double champion in Fargo last summer, winning freestyle gold medals at the Cadet and Junior levels in the same year. Figueroa was second last year at this event at 112 pounds
There were two upsets in the finals, where returning Junior Folkstyle National champions were defeated.
At 105 pounds, Aleeah Gould of California stopped last year’s 97-pound national champion McKayla Campbell of Ohio, 6-4. Last year, Gould was second at 105 pounds in this tournament.
At 148 pounds, Solin Piearcy of California edged returning Junior Folkstyle national champion Alexis Bleau of New York, 2-1.
Rachel Watters of Iowa, a member of the 2015 U.S. Junior World Team in freestyle, was the champion at 159 pounds, edging Alyvia Fiske of California, 2-0. Watters was third last year at 148 pounds.
Gabrielle Garcia of California, who was a runner-up last year, won the title this time around at 125 pounds, scoring a pin over Logan Mize of Texas in 4:33 in the finals.
Other individual champions were Katlyn Pizzo of Michigan (97), Emma Bruntil of Washington (137), Marissa Patterson of Kansas (172) and Victoria Espinoza of California (198).
In an all-California finals, Espinoza defeated 2016 Cadet National Folkstyle champion Corey Burton by a 3-1 margin.
The Girls Folkstyle Nationals conclude on Sunday with the youth divisions. In addition, the Girls National Folkstyle Junior Duals will be held, with 11 teams in the field this year.
