Western State leads California Baptist by one point going into medal round at RMAC Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – No. 17 Western State leads No. 9 ranked California Baptist by just one point in the team standings going into the gold and bronze medal bouts at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Wrestling Championships at the U.S. Olympic Training Center on Sunday.
Western State has 117.5 points, with California Baptist at 116.5 pounds. No. 11 Colorado Mesa is in third with 97.5 points.
Western State has three in the gold medal round and three in the bronze-medal round, while California Baptist has four athletes in the gold medal finals and five in the bronze-medal round.
The RMAC is a strong Div. II conference, with nine teams entered. There are four nationally ranked teams in the field, with California Baptist (No. 9), Colroado Mesa (No. 11), Western State (No. 17) and Colorado State Pueblo (No. 19). The event also features 12 athletes ranked in the top eight of their weight class nationally, in the most recent D2Wrestle rankings.
Nine of the 10 top seeds reached the finals, with the exception of Nick Swanson of Colorado Mesa, who lost his quarterfinals match at 165 pounds to Tyson Kuahine of San Francisco State, 7-5 in overtime.
