KLIPPAN, Sweden – Two-time Junior World champion Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) won a gold medal at 48 kg/105.5 lbs., the top performance at the highly respected Klippan Lady Open on Sunday.

Anthony stopped 2016 Canadian Olympian Jasmine Mian in the championship finals, 5-3. Anthony won four matches on Saturday to earn her spot in the finals.

Anthony was fifth at the 2013 World Championships at 53 kg. Mian placed ninth at 2015 World Championships, competing at 55 kg, and is also a past University World champion.

Capturing silver medals after losses in the finals were Sarah Hildebrandt (Colorado Springs, Colo./NYAC/OTC) at 55 kg/121 lbs. and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Randi Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) at 75 kg/165 lbs.

Hildebrandt was defeated by 2015 European Games bronze medalist Nadzeya Shushko of Belarus in the gold-medal finals, 2-5. Hildebrandt has been competing at 53 kg this season, but moved back up to this weight for the Klippan Lady Open. She had three wins on Saturday to reach the finals.

Miller, competing up a weight class, fell to two-time World medalist Ekaterina Bukina of Russia, 1-6 in the finals. Miller had three wins on Saturday to qualify for the finals bout.

Team USA had 19 Senior wrestlers in the competition. Two others earned a place in bronze medal matches, where they were defeated and finished fifth, Randi Beltz (St. Louis, Mo./Titan Mercury WC) at 58 kg/128 lbs. and Kendall Reusing (Riverside, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) at 75 kg/165 lbs.

"We finished the tournament with a few less medals than we'd hoped to. Many of our athletes were eliminated by this morning's semifinals. In the finals we started strong, but got too comfortable. We stopped pushing the pace and forcing our offense and our competitors used it to their advantage. Overall we had a good competition. Everyone will leave here knowing exactly where we need to work moving toward the Olympic Trials," said U.S. Assistant National Women's Coach Emma Randall.

The USA also had athletes in Friday and Saturday’s Cadet division, with 2015 U.S. Cadet World Team member Vayle Baker of Benton, Pa. winning a bronze medal at 43 kg/94.75 lbs.
