UPDATE: Geordan Speiller wins bronze on first day of Hungarian Grand Prix

SZOMBETHELY, Hungary – 2016 U.S. Open champion Geordan Speiller (Oviedo, Fla./Florida Jets) won a bronze medal at 75 kg/165 lbs. in Greco-Roman on the top U.S. performance on the first day of the respected Hungarian Grand Prix.
Speiller won his first three matches of the tournament, with his biggest win in the quarterfinals, when he was in control in an 8-2 win over 2014 World champion Peter Bacsi of Hungary. Speiller was edged in the semifinals by Mateusz Wolny of Poland, 2-3.
Speiller did not have a bronze-medal match, as he won the bout by injury default.
2012 Olympian Ellis Coleman (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) qualified for the repechage at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., where he was beaten by Artak Margaryan of France and did not earn a medal match.
Other U.S. wrestlers who competed Saturday and did not medal were RaVaughn Perkins (Omaha, Neb./New York AC) and Jesse Thielke (Germantown, Wis./New York AC), both at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., along with Patrick Martinez (Colorado Springs, Colo. (U.S. Army WCAP) and Jon Anderson, Colorado Springs, Colo. (U.S. Army WCAP), both at 85 kg/187 lbs.
Six U.S. wrestlers will compete on Sunday, including two-time Olympian Spenser Mango (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) and 2008 Olympian Ildar Hafizov (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP), both who wrestle at 59 kg/130 lbs. Spenser Mango will wrestle Eduard Barsegjan of Poland, who was fifth in the 2013 World Championships. Hafizov drew 2014 Asian bronze medalist Qiye Tian of China.
Two past World Team members will also compete on Sunday, Bryce Saddoris (Sneads Ferry, N.C./U.S. Marine Corps) at 70 kg/154 lbs. and Joe Rau (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 98 kg/215 lbs. Saddoris, wrestling up a weight class, will face Jan Zizka of the Czech Republic, who was third in the 2016 Grand Prix of Zagreb. Rau opens with Sergey Staradub of Belarus, a 2015 World Military Games bronze medalist.
Others who will compete Sunday include Ryan Mango, Colorado Springs, Colo. (U.S. Army WCAP) at 59 kg/130 lbs. and Patrick Smith (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 70 kg/154 lbs.
