CHEBOSKARY, Russia - A pair of U.S. women wrestlers who compete for the Sunkist Kids travelled to Russia this weekend to compete in the Open Cup of Russia.
Placing fifth at 69 kg/152 lbs. was Erin Clodgo (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids), who finished with a 2-2 record in the competition.
She opened with a 10-0 technical fall against an opponent from Russia, then lost a tight 2-1 decision to veteran Dalma Caneva of Italy. When Caneva reached the finals, Clodgo was pulled back into repechage, where she won her next match over a Russian by another 10-0 technical fall.
In the bronze-medal bout, Clodgo was defeated by Shakhuu Tumentsetseg of Mongolia.
Clodgo is moving up a weight class this year, after placing second last year at the Olympic Trials at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.
2012 Olympian Kelsey Campbell (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) finished with a 1-1 record at 60 kg/132 lbs.
Campbell opened with a 10-0 technical fall over an opponent from Russia. She was edged 1-0 by Maria Matiushenko of Russia. Matiushenko was defeated in the semifinals, so Campbell was not able to get into repechage. Matiushenko eventually won the bronze medal.
