Rico Lomastro, 58, of West Warwick, R.I., passed away August 30, 2015 at RI Hospital. Lomastro served many years as a state chairperson for USA Wrestling in Rhode Island, and was a nationally respected pairing official with the U.S. Wrestling Officials Association.

Born Americo Lomastro, Jr., he really loved wrestling and believed in it for all ages for girls and boys. He was a member of the RI Wrestling Association where he served as Chairman and Treasurer. He was a volunteer wrestling coach for the Town of West Warwick.

Lomastro travelled all over the United States supporting USA Wrestling, not only in his leadership role with the Rhode Island state association, but also as a pairing official at the national level. He impacted the lives of thousands of wrestlers through his dedicated service to the sport, and had friends through wrestling all across the country.

“We have lost a great leader and dear friend of USA Wrestling and our sport,” said Gary Abbott, USA Wrestling Director of Communications. “Rico had a huge heart, and always put the interests of the kids in our sport first. He was willing to do whatever was necessary to put on a great competition, or provide a quality experience for the wrestling families. On a personal note, he was a good friend of my wife Patricia and I, and I know that he has many other friends in the USA Wrestling family. He is already missed.”

Lomastro also served as Troop 2 Scout Leader for one year.

He was the beloved husband for 34 years of Aline L. (Costa) Lomastro. Born in Providence, R.I., he was a son of the late Americo A. Lomastro, Sr. and Theresa (Aquilio) Lomastro.

He was a project manager for Cosco, Inc. before retiring.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Angelo J. Lomastro and two sisters; Jean Ricard and Bethany Pellegrino.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his CALLING HOURS Thursday 4-7 p.m. at "WOODLAWN" Funeral Home 600 Pontiac Avenue Cranston. Please omit flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to the RI Wrestling Association at www.RIWrestling.com.
