Arizona State's Stauffer to battle Lehigh's Brown at 184 at NWCA All-Star Classic

TEMPE, Ariz.—Arizona State wrestling’s All-American Blake Stauffer has been invited to compete at the NWCA All-Star Classic on Sunday, Nov. 1 at Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta, the National Wrestling Coaches Association announced.


Stauffer, who placed fourth at 184 pounds at the 2015 NCAA Wrestling Championships in March in St. Louis, Mo., will take on Lehigh’s Nate Brown, the 2015 NCAA Runner-Up in their weight class.


This will mark the first-ever bout between the All-Americans, which will air on ESPNU from 5-7 p.m. ET.


The last time a Sun Devil competed at the NWCA All-Star Classic was in 2010 with eventual NCAA Champions Anthony Robles (125 pounds) and Bubba Jenkins (157 pounds) competing. Current head coach Zeke Jones competed at the event in 1990.


The reigning Pac-12 Wrestler of the Year, Stauffer and the Sun Devils will open the 2015-16 season at the West Virginia Duals on Sunday, Nov. 8 in Morgantown, W.Va. ASU’s home opener is set for Thursday, Nov. 12 against Northern Colorado at 5 p.m. PT at Wells Fargo Arena.


The first chance to see the rest of the Sun Devils will be the Maroon & Gold Intersquad on Friday, Oct. 30 at the Riches Wrestling Complex. The event is open to the public with the preliminary bouts starting at 8 a.m. PT and the finals scheduled for a 5 p.m. PT Start.
