Adeline Gray named 2014 USA Wrestling Women’s Wrestler of the Year

Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) was named 2014 Women's Wrestler of the Year by USA Wrestling. It is the first time in her career that Gray has received this prestigious award.
Gray won a gold medal at 75 kg/165 lbs. at the 2014 World Wrestling Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It was Gray’s second World gold medal and her fourth career World medal.
Gray won five matches to win the World title. She opened with an amazing come-from-behind 11-10 win over Zhou Qian of China. She followed with a pin over Yesemin Adar of Turkey and a 2-1 decision over talented Hiroe Suzuki of Japan. In the semifinals, she beat Epp Mae of Estonia, 5-1 and in the finals edged Alina da Silva of Brazil, 2-1.
Gray won the U.S. World Team Trials in Madison, Wis. in June, defeating Jackie Cataline in the championship finals in two straight matches. She qualified for her fifth Senior World Team.
Gray went unbeaten and won an individual gold medal at the Women’s World Cup. She also won two other international medals in 2014, a silver medal at the FILA Golden Grand Prix Finals in Azerbaijan, and a bronze medal at the Klippan Lady Open in Sweden.
Gray has won World titles on three different age levels, adding a 2008 Junior World gold medal and a 2012 University World gold medal.
She is a U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete, and attends college at Devry University.
A native of Denver, Colo., Gray attended Bear Creek High School and Chatfield High School in Colorado.
