MADISON, Wis. – The U.S. will have plenty of firepower and experience on the World Team in women’s freestyle wrestling at 58 kg/128 lbs.
Two-time World Team member Alli Ragan and 2012 Olympian Kelsey Campbell both earned spots in the World Team Trials finals at 58 kilos on Saturday at the Alliant Energy Center.
“I just have to completely focus on each opponent and I was able to make adjustments during my matches,” Campbell said. “It’s a tough weight class. I’m excited about the finals and so ready to be back at the No. 1 spot.”
Campbell beat Ragan 3-1 in May’s U.S. Open semifinals. Campbell and Ragan have both placed fifth at the World Championships. Ragan was fifth in the World last year.
“Kelsey always stays in good position,” Ragan said. “I need to keep moving her and get open shots on her. I’m excited to be back in the finals.”
Champions at the Trials advance to September’s World Championships in Las Vegas.
The best-of-3 finals are set for 5 p.m. and will be shown on a live webcast on Flo Wrestling.
