FLASH: Taylor wins gold and Michalak takes bronze at Sargsyan Cup in Armenia

YEREVAN, Armenia - David Taylor (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) won a gold at 74 kg/163 lbs. and Wynn Michalak (Champaign, Ill./Titan Mercury WC) took a bronze at 97 kg/213 lbs. on the first day of the Stepan Sargsyan Cup on Saturday.
Taylor won four matches on the way to his title. In the championship finals, he defeated Kakhaber Khubezhety of Russia, 8-0.
“David looked tremendous the whole tournament winning 10-0, 12-2, 10-0, 8-0. Wynn won the bronze by pinning in the first period,” said U.S. coach Jim Humphrey.
Michalak won his preliminary bouts and reached the semifinals where he was defeated by an opponent from Iran, but came back to win the bronze.
Also competing on Saturday was Frank Molinaro (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) who fell short of the medal rounds at 65 kg/143 lbs. Molinaro won his opening match and lost a tough 6-8 match to a Russian opponent.

Two U.S. wrestlers compete on Sunday: 2015 U.S. World Team member Reece Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio/New York AC/Ohio RTC) at 61 kg/134 lbs. and Richard Perry (Philadelphia, Pa./New York AC/Pennsylvania RTC) at 86 kg/189 lbs.
