COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Jordan Holm won his third straight title to top the list of American Greco-Roman champions at the Dave Schultz Memorial International.

Holm, a two-time World Team member, took control early in earning a 6-0 finals win over Jon Anderson at 85 kg/187 lbs. on Thursday afternoon at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

“Dave Schultz is a tough tournament,” Holm said. “I am really proud of the fact that I have done real well here. I got dinged up in practice and couldn’t go in the Pinto Cup. My coach told me it was my call today if I wanted to go. That made it my decision which meant I couldn’t say no. It turned out well.

“There are some things I will take from today that are positives and that I will build on. I am excited I am going to continue to train here for another week with Kazakhstan. They have some guys who are pretty good in my weight class within the World.”

Americans Ben Provisor and Michael Hooker also captured championships as the three-day Schultz event kicked off on Thursday.

Provisor, a 2012 Olympian, earned a 2-1 win over 2014 World Team member Joe Rau in the finals at 80 kg/176 lbs. Rau beat Provisor in the 2014 World Team Trials finals.

“I didn’t tell many people, but I had a grade 3 tear in my hamstring before the Trials last year,” Provisor said. “I couldn’t push the way I am used to there. As you saw, in this match, I was going for it the whole time. I was pushing, getting my underhooks, pushing the pace. If I don’t have my legs under me, it makes a big difference. People think its upper-body, but legs are the most important thing in Greco.”

Hooker won by injury default over Kendrick Sanders in an all-USA match at 71 kg/156 lbs. Sanders led 4-1 before Hooker hit a four-point headlock in the second period.

Sanders was injured during the sequence and medical personnel determined he was unable to continue. Sanders won this event in 2012 and 2014.

“It was very surreal,” Hooker said. “I drove 2,000 miles from Tennessee in November, hoping and praying to wrestle here with the Army. The coaches were very supportive of me. I put all my stuff in my car, came out here, and got myself thrown around a lot.

“It felt great. I learned that throw back in Tennessee. Today, it just worked out for me.”

Sanders was disqualified from the tournament for walking off the mat and not shaking hands with Hooker after the match.

Kazakhstan’s Yerulan Iskakov earned an 8-0 technical fall over American Caylor Williams at 98 kg/216 lbs. Iskakov, seventh in the World last year, was named Outstanding Wrestler.

World bronze medalist Nurmakhan Tinaliyev of Kazakhstan won by an 8-0 technical fall over American David Arendt at 130 kg/286 lbs.

World champion Ivo Angelov won by injury default over Junior World champion Aleksandar Kostadinov at 59 kg/130 lbs. Both wrestlers are from Bulgaria.

Kazakhstan’s Demeu Zhadrayev won by injury default over countryman Almat Kebispayev at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.

Kazakhstan’s Doszhan Kartikov won by injury default over countryman Maxat Yerezhepov at 75 kg/165 lbs. Kartikov won his second Schultz title.

Kazakhstan finished with four champions to win the team title. The Minnesota Storm finished second.

Day 2 of the three-day Schultz event is set for Friday, with men’s freestyle competing. The women’s freestyle tournament will be on Saturday.
