Tentative U.S. entries for the 2015 Dave Schultz Memorial
The tentative rosters have been submitted for the 2015 Dave Schultz Memorial International Championships.
The annual international event, now in its 17th year, will be held in Sports Center I at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., Jan. 29-31. Greco-Roman will compete on Thursday, men’s freestyle on Friday and women’s freestyle on Saturday.
The event is held in memory of the late Dave Schultz, a World and Olympic champion in men’s freestyle who was tragically murdered in 1996. A legend in international wrestling, Schultz was a popular figure, and a true ambassador of goodwill through sports. He is a subject of the current major motion picture Foxcatcher, which is nominated for five Academy Awards.
There are at least 18 international teams signed up to compete, including Argentina, Bulgaria, Canada, Ecuador, India, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, United States, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
The tentative rosters for the U.S., as well as the international delegations, boast a number of international stars that are expected to compete in the event.
Olympic medalists registered include 2008 Olympic gold medalist Islambek Albiev of Russia (75 kg/165 lbs) in Greco-Roman, 2012 Olympic gold medalist Alan Khugaev of Russia (85 kg/187 lbs) in Greco-Roman, 2012 Olympic silver medalist Rustam Totrov of Russia (98 kg/215.5 lbs) in Greco-Roman, 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Yavor Yanakiev of Bulgaria (75 kg/165 lbs) in Greco-Roman, 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Radoslav Velikov of Bulgaria (61 kg/134 lbs) in men’s freestyle, 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Yogeshwar Dutt of India (65 kg) in men’s freestyle, 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Clarissa Chun of the USA (48 kg/105.5 lbs) in women’s freestyle, and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Randi Miller (69 kg/152 lbs) of the United States in women’s freestyle.
World Champions to expected compete include 2013 World champion Ivo Angelov (59 kg/130 lbs) of Bulgaria in Greco-Roman, 2013 World champion Alina Makhynia of Ukraine (69 kg/152 lbs) in women’s freestyle, 2012 World champion Elena Pirozkhkova of the United States (69 kg/152 lbs.), 2011 World champion Elis Guri of Bulgaria (98 kg/215.5 lbs) in Greco-Roman, 2010 World champion Michail Petrov Ganev of Bulgaria (86 kg/189 lbs) in men’s freestyle, 2010 World champion Hristo Marinov of Bulgaria (85 kg/187 lbs) in Greco-Roman and 2005 World champion Iris Smith of the United States (75 kg/165 lbs) in women’s freestyle, along with Chun, Albiev, Velikov and Yankiev.
Up to eight more international stars who have been World medalists are also coming from around the world. Among other top athletes slated to compete include a number of World and Olympic team members, as well as Junior, Cadet and University World champions and Continental champions.

All three days of the action will be webcast live on FloWrestling.
Tickets for the event will be available for purchase at the door at U.S. Olympic Training Center on competition days. Admission for adults is $10 per session, $15 per day, or $20 for the entire weekend. Admission for high school students (with an I.D.) and senior citizens (65+) is $5 per day, with youth tickets (5-14 years old) being $4 per day. Coaches can get in free of charge with five paid wrestlers.
